My youngest daughter is obsessed with the boy band, ‘One Direction’. So, for her 13th birthday party she of course wanted the theme to be “One Direction”. And as usual I try and think of a budget friendly, yet creative way to please my child for her special day. As of late, I seem to be doing a lot of custom labels-sticker projects, so I have a lot of extra labels. I created a custom Hershey chocolate bar label with finding a ‘One Direction’ picture online and adding text. Super easy and inexpensive. Now the gumballs decoration took a little more effort, but the end results were awesome. Not only is my daughter obsessed with this boy band, she is probably more obsessed with chewing gum. For this particular party favor, I picked up her favorite colored bubble gumballs, thin and clear plexiglass sheets, colored foam sheets, ribbon and stick on labels. I rolled the plexiglass sheet and taped it together, so the gumballs would fit in it snug. Cut flower shapes and round circles in the foam. Used a photo of the band I found on the internet, printed on the labels and cut in circles. Punched a hole into the top of the plastic tube and foam flower, then attached with a ribbon. I then stuck the gumball tubes in glass vases I picked up at the local Dollar Store.
My daughter also requested a cookie cake. So, instead of buying a custom cookie cake, I made my own because it is super easy, cheaper and takes little time to do. But, to keep with the ‘One Direction’ theme, I found an edible cake topper on Etsy.com. The topper, I had to purchase already custom made because I do not own a printer which can print on edible paper. After applying the cake topper, I then decorated the rest of the cookie cake to add more color.
Needless to say, my daughter and her friends loved the party favors and cookie cake. Happy child = happy mom.
